Effects of Turbulent Mixing and Controlling Mechanisms in an Entrained Flow Coal Gasifier

چکیده
There is a large range of time and length scales of turbulent fluctuations in an entrained flow coal gasifier. To figure out the turbulent effects on coal gasification processes and the controlling mechanisms of different regions in an entrained flow coal gasifier, the characteristic time and length scales for all major processes are estimated. On the basis of the comparisonbetween the length/time scales of turbulentmixing in all ranges and the characteristic time of homoand heterogeneous reactions, turbulent effects on reactions and coal gasification processes in different regions in an entrained coal gasifier are studied. In the flame region, there is a strong coupling effect between macro-scale turbulent fluctuation and heterogeneous reactions. The combustion of the volatile is strongly affected by the fluctuation of micro-scale Kolmogorov scales because the diffusion boundary layer of the particles is destroyed by this kind of fluctuation. In the nonflame region, the heterogeneous char gasification reactions are not affected by turbulent fluctuations; however, the coupling effect between turbulent mixing and gas-phase reactions should not be omitted.

Slag Behavior in Gasifiers. Part I: Influence of Coal Properties and Gasification Conditions
In the entrained-flow gasifiers used in integrated gasification combined cycle (IGCC) plants, the majority of mineral matter transforms to liquid slag on the wall of the gasifier and flows out the bottom. However, a small fraction of the mineral matter is entrained (as fly ash) with the raw syngas out of the gasifier to downstream processing. This molten/sticky fly ash could cause fouling of th...

Three-dimensional computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modeling of the gasification performance in a one-stage, entrained-bed coal gasifier (Shell Coal Gasification Process (SCGP) gasifier) was performed, for the first time. The parametric study used various O2/coal and steam/coal ratios, and the modeling used a commercial code, ANSYS FLUENT. CFD modeling was conducted by solving the steady-state...
متن کاملThe Effect of Air Fuel Ratio and Temperature on Syngas Composition and Calorific Value Produced from Downdraft Gasifier of Rubber Wood-Coal Mixture
Rubber wood (Ficus elastica) is one the biomass waste that can be used as raw material for a gasification process and has a calorific value of 4,069 cal/gram. Gasification is a process to convert a solid fuel to syngas (CO, CH4, and H2) through a combustion process using limited air between 20% to 40% of air stoichiometry. Depending on the direction of airflow, the gasifiers are classified as u...
متن کاملTowards an Analytical Model for Film Cooling Prediction using Integral Turbulent Boundary layer
The objective of this work is to develop deep theoretical methods that are based on the solution of the integral boundary layer equations for investigating film cooling in liquid rocket engine. The integral model assumes that heat is transferred from hot free stream gas to the liquid film both by convection and radiation. The mass is transferred to the free srteam gas by the well-known blowing ...
